New Moon

What is a New Moon

Known as the "invisible phase," a New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are in alignment, and the Sun and Earth are on opposite sides of the Moon. As the Moon is right next to the Sun during the New Moon phase, and the Moon rises and sets during the same time as the Sun, it is too close to the Sun to be visible, and the Moon is not visible in our sky during this phase. As a result, the sky can be rather dark on a New Moon night.

In astrology, when a New Moon occurs, the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction with each other, located within the same zodiac sign. Each month, when the New Moon occurs, it will happen in a different zodiac sign, which is the sign that corresponds to the current zodiac season. The zodiac season points to the zodiac sign the Sun moves through over a 30 day period.

New Moon nights are perfect for stargazing, as there is minimal light pollution in the sky, and you can see most of the stars at their very brightest. In astrology, New Moons represent the best time to initiate new beginnings, and fresh starts and brings with it a new 27 day cycle where we will undergo many challenges and lessons that lead to our growth. A New Moon is the best time to set an intention for a goal you wish to manifest and think of new creative projects.

How does a New Moon affect your mood?

A New Moon can cause changes in your health, emotions, and sleep patterns. You may experience a lower heart and blood pressure rate, making you feel calmer. You can feel more apprehensive toward specific tasks and commitments that do not align with your desires and values but much more willing to engage with other engagements that allow you to move closer to a life you wish to live.

Love and romance can be on your mind, or it might be something you wish to avoid. On the one hand, if your personal affairs are in order, you might want to pursue a romantic interest and start a new relationship. But, on the other hand, if your matters are not in order, being in a relationship might be too draining and demanding of your time and energy. Therefore, a New Moon is a necessary time to focus on you and your goals and not allow other people's needs to take importance over your own.

How does a New Moon affect your daily life?

Ideas are abundant during the New Moon lunar phase, and you could find yourself in the early stages of developing a new idea or project. You identify with what you want to improve in your life and work to create a reality for yourself where you can live according to your authentic expression and follow your dreams. However, a New Moon gives you ants in your pants! You cannot sit still, and you wish to be progressing toward something more significant.

New opportunities can be presented to you during this time, and it is vital to assess where you want to be spending your energy. A New Moon also points to a necessary time to release, as holding onto expectations from the past will remove your energy and focus from being able to create a new reality for yourself that is in alignment with your current desires and wishes.

Positive effects of the New Moon

A New Moon is when you plant the seeds of thoughts that will eventually bloom into goals and success in your future. You might feel an urge to release pent-up emotions and frustrations, leading you to feel much lighter, at peace, and focused once feelings that have caused stagnance have been released. Emotions held onto in the previous lunar cycle can be let go of, and you can focus on inviting happier, healthier emotions into your life. What you keep and what you release is very important during the New Moon, as this will determine what you take with you throughout the current lunar cycle. Self-care becomes a focus during a New Moon, and this is a beautiful time where you can take time for yourself, love yourself, spoil yourself, and connect with yourself and what makes you feel happy, complete, and at peace inside.

Negative effects of the New Moon

Your mind can become restless, bustling with ideas for the future. This restlessness can make it tricky to sit still, focus on one thing, and sleep. Many people experience sleepless nights at the time of the New Moon, as thoughts are rushing through their minds rapidly. Even though you are feeling restless, you can have low energy, which results in frustration. There can be a burning desire to get things done and accomplish certain things, but you feel drained. For this reason, the New Moon is the ideal time to think of and plan your goals, but not put too much pressure on executing them, as when the time is right, you will have the energy needed later on in the lunar cycle. The New Moon is a time of introversion, as the best way to connect with your authentic wishes is to sit with yourself and reflect on your true desires and emotions.
