The second card in the Cups suit brings the promise of romance, mutual understanding, emotional bonding and love. It’s the card of the blessed unity and more often than not can represent a lesbian relationship.
This card has two people and two cups on it. Older decks have a man and a woman, but many modern (newer) decks have two women, actually undines, depicted on this card, as the Water element is of female modality. There’s also an angel in the form of a lion and he is blessing the union of the two cups (and people) depicted on the card.
The landscape is filed with fertile and pastel colors that bring forth a positive sensation and a promise of a better future that is to come. In the distance we also see a house with a red roof hidden in the green trees, this signifies a safe and cozy atmosphere for the two people at the center of the card.
When the Two of Cups shows in reading it foretells many wonderful things for the reader/asker. First and foremost, it’s an omen of a fertile and profitable unity, whether the currency is emotional or material, it doesn’t matter – good partnership is bound to happen.
The spirits in charge of this card are two undines called Diana 1 and Diana 2. Diana 1 shows the reader good things that are bound to happen, she provides emotional assurance and support in the form of positive visions of the future that promise emotional support and contempt.
This is also another reason why the Two of Cups is tied to female love affairs and is the main omen of a successful Sapphic unity between two females.
When the Two of Cups show up reversed, it means that all things that could go wrong in a love affair or a partnership – are going to go wrong.
Thanks to its Water element, this card covers many emotional matters that are tied to partnerships, friendships and love affairs, and the same goes for its reversed position – whatever can go wrong in these fields – you can count for it to go wrong.
When this card shows up reversed it can mean that all things tied to partnerships, communication and open emotional displays will go wrong or unfavorably. It’s an omen to cease your current dealings with your partner(s) and to approach the matters from a different, solitary angle.
