The 6th card in the Cups suit stands for optimism, renewal, emotional recovery and healing, starting fresh and building again from the ashes of the previous ruin
On this card, we have a heartwarming picture as the two main figures in the card are children, a boy and a girl, and there are white flowers in all of the six cups present in the image. One of the cups is being given to the girl by the boy representing kindness and sharing
There’s a lot of greenery on the card, alluding to spring – the time of awakening after a long and harsh winter (Five of Cups), and renewal. The colors are bright reds, blues and yellows. In the background, there is a castle that was only visible from the distance in the Five of Cups.
The children are positioned in the courtyard of the castle, and there’s a guard in the background to the left with a spear dressed in sky blue – the color of the sky in the card, representing the emotional safety and comfort of the childhood innocence.
Six of Cups is the card of optimism and renewed faith. It shows getting out of the trap that was represented by the Five of Cups. Its message is that the time for letting go, healing and pleasure has come (again).
At the same time, this is a nostalgic card, as the spirit of Pleasures (the Lord of this card) is asking the reader/asker to renew his relationships with his parents, siblings and old friends in order to find emotional stability and happiness again.
The message is sort of to go back to the beginning, where it all started, in order to heal and release what doesn’t serve you and to implement better understanding and emotions that will help you in the future. Go back to the beginning in order to be able to choose a different end.
This card reversed talks about enhanced nostalgia, living in the past, lacking childhood playfulness in adult life (taking things too serious), leaving your hometown and getting out into the “real” world.
It also foretells of innocence lost and insight you can gain from getting more serious.
When Six of Cups shows up reversed it can mean that your mind is stuck in the past, you’re reliving ‘better times’ over and over in your head, while your life is passing you by.
It’s time to focus on the now and here, not replay memories from the past. This card reversed implies that you are idealizing your past connections and people you’ve been in love with, you’re feeling sorrowful because the time passes when you should be focusing on pleasurable things you can do in the now and build for the future.
Six of Cups reversed can also mean that you need to revisit your hometown in order to spend some time in meditation and contemplation near the body of water in order to let go of your nostalgia for the past
